In a concerted effort to improve the lives of widows in the country, Xploits Consulting Ltd in partnership with Access Bank Plc have organized a two-day skills acquisition program for widows to mark the International Day for Widows and to provide succour and support to enable them cater for the household.
The event, which drew the widows from Dutse Bokuma, Dutse Alhaji and Dawaki all in Bwari Area Council of the FCT had a total of 53 widows who were trained on soapmaking, wig making, bead making and make up artistry.
Addressing the participants, the Head of Projects, Xploits Consulting Ltd, Mrs Grace Taiwo said that the essence of the training was to enhance the employability and income generation of the participants thereby making life more bearable for them.
Speaking on behalf of the participants at the end of the training, Mrs Esther Adoyi thanked Xploits consulting for facilitating the training and Access Bank Ltd for their support.
Another participant, Mrs Mariam Ibrahim called on government to look into the plight of widows and come to their aid by granting them an enabling trading environment.
In a related development, 30 children across three area councils in the FCT ( Bwari, kuje and Gwagwalada) have been enrolled into government primary Schools to mark the International Day against Child Labour.
The schools were the children were been enrolled are LEA Primary school, Dawaki, Phase 3 LEA Primary school, Gwagwalada and kuje Model school, kayaida kuje.
Acknowledging the gesture, the head mistress LEA Primary school Dawaki , Mrs Mary Makama appreciated the scholarship given to the children and called on the parents/ guardian to always remain vigilant about the whereabouts of their wards so that the do not go back to the streets hawking again.
Responding on behalf of the parents, Mr Shaibu Sambo urged the parents to ensure that their wards get to school on time , do all their assignments and always report to the school if there was any problem.
He said by so doing they as parents would have contributed to making the child a better person.
One of the beneficiaries, Fatima Abdullamid who narrated that she had to dropped out from school in Primary 5 because of lack of funds to pay her fee and took to hawking but now has an opportunity at realizing her dreams thanked the sponsors Xploits Consulting Ltd and Access Bank plc for bringing her back to school again.
Addressing the beneficiaries and their parents, Mrs Grace Taiwo of Xploits consulting Ltd said they would be monitoring the children both at home and in school to make sure they are doing the right thing as regards their studies and general wellbeing.
