The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah has assured that on-going policy efforts of the administration will trigger industrialisation and national development, which would lead to the achievement of the Federal Government’s goals of wealth creation, massive job opportunities, resource diversification and poverty reduction.
A statement, signed by Mr. Ijomah E. Opia for the Head of Media and Publicity in the Ministry, said the minister gave the assurance in Abuja, on Tuesday, during a study visit of Senior Executive Course 43 Participants of the the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, to the Ministry.
The participants came to interact with the Management of the Ministry in order to discuss policy issues and strengthen the sector for economic development.
Ogah said the Ministry is charged with the responsibility of unlocking the economic potentials of the Minerals and Metals sector, and ensuring sustainable growth for the peace and prosperity of Nigerians, noting that the Ministry currently wields Presidential directive to take a leading role in the diversification of the nation’s economy.
He therefore said it was remarkable and auspicious to have an elite institution like NIPSS to understudy the sector for the purposeful interactive dialogue on policy formulation and implementation strategies with respect to the development of the Nigerian Mineral resources for National Development.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Mrs Oluwatoyin Akinlade said the ministry will work with all stakeholders and development partners like NIPSS to develop the industry, adding that the ministry considers members of the Senior Executive Course 43 as the elite group of strategic thinkers as critical development partners.
Dr Akinlade further acknowledged the critical role that NIPSS must play in order for government to achieve set goals for the sector, especially considering the present social economic climate. She expressed expressed confidence in the ability of the team from NIPSS to brainstorm with the management of the Ministry and proffer solution to challenges, adding that the Ministry has very strategic role to play in the realization of the Economic Development plan of the Federal Government.
The leader of the NIPSS delegation, Professor Audu Gambo, who represented the Director General, said they were in the Ministry to study it, and identify areas of possible collaboration that will lead to the realization of set goals.
